She has never spent a single day at home.
Instead, every one of her first 92 days has been inside Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, where her family is now asking the prayer warriors on my page to lift up their precious little girl before what could become the biggest day of her young life.
Her aunt, Christina, reached out to me hoping our community will surround Isla, her parents, Alyssa and Larry, and her entire family with prayers as surgeons prepare to operate tomorrow.
Before Isla was even born, doctors discovered what they believed was a blockage in her small intestine.
But when surgeons examined her after birth, they found something far more serious.
Instead of one blockage, Isla had multiple life-threatening intestinal abnormalities, including a twisted intestine and an extremely rare congenital condition that threatened much of her small intestine.
Rather than rushing into another operation, her medical team made the difficult decision to wait, hoping time would allow more of her intestine to survive.
For the past three months, Isla has been unable to eat.
Instead, she’s received all of her nutrition through an IV, allowing this tiny little girl to grow from just 3 pounds, 8 ounces at birth to more than 7 pounds today.
Tomorrow, her doctors will finally return to the operating room.
Her family from Harlingen, Texas is praying they discover more healthy intestine than they originally believed was possible. Even if that’s the case, Isla may still face a lifelong condition known as short bowel syndrome.
They’re asking us all to join them in prayer.
Prayers for steady hands in the operating room. Prayers for healing. And praying that their baby girl, who has spent every day of her life inside a hospital, is finally one step closer to going home.
